Robert’s Redemption: From Wall Street to Island Paradise
I was living and running a business on St John in the USVI. I was having a lunch with a client who introduced me to Robert. Cynthia had met Robert the night before in local night hang out for locals and tourist. Robert she shared was a seasoned Wall Street stockbroker. She smiled and shared he told her he had relentless pressure of the trading floor and came to escape it for a week or so. But, he was bored, things were too slow but also he was adjusting to the slower pace. The constant stress had taken its toll, and a doctor’s visit revealed the harsh truth: his blood pressure was sky-high. With a stern warning and a prescription for medication, Robert’s doctor ordered him to take a week off to de-stress and let the medication take effect.
Seizing the opportunity to escape his chaotic routine, Robert booked a 12-day trip to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. The first few days were an adjustment; he felt restless, bored, and unsure how to simply relax. But as the days passed, a profound shift occurred. The island’s laid-back pace, the soothing sound of the waves, and the absence of his usual stressors began to work their magic. For the first time in years, Robert experienced true tranquility. One day, while browsing a local paper, he stumbled upon a job listing for a campground manager. Intrigued, he applied on a whim. To his surprise, he got the job. It was a life-altering decision.
